Product Description Every year, the test cooks at America's Test Kitchen develop hundreds of new recipes for our books, magazines, and highly rated public television show. And every year we collect our favorite recipes (no easy task!) and showcase them in this annual "best of the best" cookbook. Essentially a yearbook of our best recipes and most interesting discoveries, "The Best of America's Test Kitchen 2008" provides a revealing, behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in our test kitchen. Every recipe, from appetizers to desserts, features a write-up explaining why we selected it as a best recipe; we also include make-ahead instructions, tips on where things might go wrong, and step-by-step instructions.

Rave review January 2, 2009 Richard Terrell (Richmond, VA) This cookbook is simply excellent. A cookbook really has to knock my socks off to get any play in my kitchen, I really prefer to be able to download and print recipes, so I stick to Bon Appetit, Cooking Light, various Food Network shows, etc. This cookbook is the rare exception, and lives up to its name. The footnotes in the recipes that explain the twists and turns that led them to the ultimate recipe are very enlightening to the amateur chef - I've learned a lot reading those bits of knowledge.
Another flawless cookbook from ATK November 24, 2008 R. Bullock (Phila, PA) America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated has done it again! Yet another perfect cookbook, with no-goof recipes that yield the best possible result. The clincher for me will always be the tried-and-true approach to the recipes showcased in these collections. Thank you, ATK, for making 100 different cakes so I can make just 1 perfect one! Another huge plus was the recommendation of Barilla no-boil lasagna noodles. Because of the homemade manicotti recipe found in this volume, I have a new favorite lasagna noodles. And yes, they really do rival fresh noodles in taste and consistency. These cookbooks are constantly the first ones I reach for. Always a pleasure.

What you have come to expect from ATK... Straight forward and filled with unpretentious info on food and products... I love it.

I have the 2007 edition and the 2008 is just as good. The recipes, product reviews and tips are great as always. Highly recommended for beginner (good shower gift)and experienced cooks alike.
Best Technology Cook Book April 28, 2008 Michael Espinosa (West Coast) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this book, finally combined are the 2 things I love about food; the technology of what works and what doesn't work & seeing how it turns out. I love cooking, I dislike following recipes - I see them as more of a roadmap with me doing the driving. Food should be created using S.O.S. seasonal, organic and substainable (all when possible). I really like the way this book was presented.
