5 out of 5 stars Cooking for David cookbook for dialysis patients   November 23, 2008

My husband and I were awash in a sea of fear and ignorance as to how we were going to control his diet during dialysis. This book has been our rock from the day we received it. We have daily recipes and love almost all of them.

4 out of 5 stars Looks like a helpful book   November 15, 2008
Karen A. Gallagher (Delaware, U.S.A.)
I ordered this book for my fiance, who is having kidney problems since suffering a medication interaction that damaged his kidneys. It has helpful information on diet as well as decent recipes.

5 out of 5 stars The easiest one for me.   October 30, 2008
Mrs. Patty Perez (Kirkland, WA United States)
This book is a binder, it makes it easy to take off only the pages I need, either for my shopping list or for a recipe.

I like to go to the point instead of reading and reading prefaces.

I recommend this no complicated book.

3 out of 5 stars Good resource   January 20, 2008
price gougers are repulsive (AMERICA)

This is a good resource for dialysis patients and their families. Unfortunately, because the book is apparently out of print, there are some independant sellers engaging in shameless price gouging.

Paying $29.99 for a book listed at $24.00 is reasonable. However, charging $62.00 and up is outrageous!

Alibris, a company that sells out-of-print books, is allowing this book to be sold for over $206.00!! If that is not price gouging, I don't know what is. It is truly repulsive and should not be tolerated especially when this book is geared towards people who are sick, and more often than not, on a fixed income.

5 out of 5 stars A "Must-Have" for Your CKD Library   November 6, 2007

My mother was diagnosed with stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD). She is on a strict diet to stave off dialysis. Unfortunately, she did not get much dietary support from her doctors other than to control her protein, sodium, and potassium intakes. After scouring the internet for information, I noticed this book had received good reviews and purchased it. My mother was very pleased with the book. It provided her with information on CKD she was looking for as well as recipes she could enjoy. The nutritional information allowed her to closely monitor her daily consumption levels. This book, along with "The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Creative Cooking for Renal Diets" are the foundation for her diet today.
One caveat: This book is designed for the dialysis patient, so some of the recipes are too high in protein for my mother's diet. However, there are still plenty of recipes that she can use.
PS - A good website for kidney disease/dialysis information is davita.com. They have just added a "diet helper" tool for menu planning.
