Amazon.com Review Leave it to the French to create the perfect saucepan with performance and style. The extra-thick copper-lined bottom heats fast and evenly; won't react with foods as aluminum does, and won't ever warp if left on the burner too long. The polished stainless steel will always look sharp, even with regular dishwasher cleaning. This saucepan's straight sides have a curved rim for accurately pouring a lunchtime soup into a mug or straining a beurre blanc. The handle is designed to direct the heat away and stay cool. Make room on the pot rack for hanging it within reach, because you'll definitely want to show off this imported pot. --Lynne Sampson

We love it October 15, 2008 T. A. Delzer (Eugene, OR) It's attractive, spartan, different, less expensive than any of the high-end alternatives, works as it should which is to say, "well," and even feels better lifting than either of us expected. In fact, the handle was the only thing my wife and I were concerned about before we bought the pan since we hadn't had the opportunity to lift it in a store (are there any stores outside of SF and Seattle that sell Sitram?). We own a large Sitram cybernox frying pan but that has the curled-over stainless handle of the Profisserie line that is every bit as comfortable as it appears it will be. This handle, a utilitarian strip of slightly curved stainless, was sort of scary looking after having been pampered by the cybernox and All-Clads, etc. Happily, the Catering line handle is curved enough laterally to keep the edges off my fingers. Lifting, walking, and steadying four and a half quarts of boiling water (with a hot pad, mind you) isn't difficult either, in my opinion, since I can gain leverage with my thumb in the handle's groove and my forearm against the handle's upper portion. The weight of the pan, despite its large volume and copper bottom sheet, also turned out not to be a complaint for us. Perhaps the sheer size of the pan readies us for the heft but regardless we have been pleasantly surprised by the ease with which we can lift and manipulate the pan. We're very happy with this pan and plan to add more Sitram Catering saucepans to our stock of kitchen tools. Be sure to watch the price of all of Sitram's pots and pans on amazon for a few weeks before buying. Their prices fluctuate wildly for some reason. Unannounced sales? I don't know, but I saw this very saucepan on here for $55 soon after I had bought it for $69.
Sitram Catering 4.5 qt. is an outstanding saucepan December 21, 2007 Resips (San Diego, CA USA) This saucepan is an absolutely outstanding pan. I own it and use it everyday with NO problems. The size is very useful. The pan has a thick copper core sandwiched between layers of stainless steel and is very responsive to temperature changes. Cleaning the pan is a snap in the dishwasher. If by chance something sticks, a little soak with hot, soapy water first does the trick. Sitram Catering Stainless Steel pans are extremely high quality pans. They are used by professional cooks in France who do not put up with inferior equipment. I own a number of frying pans, saucepans and pots from the Catering line and heartily recommend them all. 1/16/08 Update: I do wish the prices on the Catering line had not risen as much as they have. The prices are on par when compared to other high quality lines but the prices are no longer the great deal they used to be.
Something wrong October 13, 2007 Karthik 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought the product 1 month back. Something seems to be wrong..The coating in the bottom of the vessel has already started to give away.. And i could see all the rainbow colours inside the vessel. I donno if it is because i use a electric burner or because of overheating bla bla bla...
A pot built to last a life time..... December 8, 2000 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love this saucepan. It is made heavy and very well built. The handle is welded so nothing gets stuck in any grooves. The bottom is very heavy therefore food doesn't stick or burn. I don't think you could harm this pan unless you ran over it with a steam shovel. I think you will love it as much as I do. It is my favorite pan.
