Product Description Throughout history, decanters have played a significant role in the serving of wine. Decanting is the process of pouring wine from a bottle into a carafe to separate the clear wine from the deposit or sediment at the bottom of the bottle. In this decanting process, the wine flows generously into the decanter being enriched with oxygen. The bellied shape of the decanter provides the wine enough surface to aerate developing the full bouquet of your wine.
Amazon.com Review Made of lead-free glass, this classic decanter holds one 750-milliliter bottle of wine. While the most common use of a decanter is to prevent sediment in an aged red wine from spoiling the wine's clarity and brilliance, some authorities also recommend decanting young red wines to give them the opportunity to bloom. In either case, this decanter brings elegance to the dinner table. And because it has an indented well in the bottom, steady, careful pouring is possible, as fingers fit securely into the well while the thumb grips atop the decanter's flared base. Standing 9 inches high on a 9-inch-diameter base, the decanter serves beautifully as a vase when it's not being used for wine. --Fred Brack

Great decanter for the price March 15, 2010 W. D. Walker (usa) This decanter is very pretty and aerates wine nicely. It is definitely worth it's price.
The only negative is that when you pour the last of the wine you have to completely invert the decanter and it has a tenancy to spill a bit.
The perfect decanter. January 29, 2010 J. Kavia (Chicago, IL.) This decanter is perfectly proportioned. Pouring an entire 750ml bottle of wine into the decanter brings the level of liquid to widest part of the decanter. Perfect for exposing the most amount of surface area to air for decanting. If I have 1 complaint about this product (though it isn't enough to reduce the rating), is that the edges aren't rolled and wine will always drip down the sides after pouring unless you have a towel or your tongue ready.
OK December 27, 2009 Daniel Pires OK decanter, bought it for my girlfriends parents, they loved it. I did open the package after it arrived to make sure everything was fine. It has a small engravement on the side from the manufacturer that looks fine. It also had, to my surprise, a MADE IN ROMANIA sticker. I think thats the first time I see something made in romania lol. Well it fits half a bittle and for the price you can't go wrong. Didn't look like the cheapest glass that would break easy.
Best value for money April 29, 2009 Chee-Hong Pang (Seattle, WA USA) The decanter really works and it opens up the wine regardless if its an old vintage or a a young wine. You have to somewhat get use to pouring of the wine. When pouring wine into the decanter you need to do it gently else it easily spills out. I also use a wine funnel and it works great. The same goes when pouring the wine off the decanter especially when you getting down to the last glass. You nearly have to tilt the decanter upright to get the last drop out. Overall I am very happy with it for the price I paid. I like to give it 4.5 star but not sure how to add the half star.
A Great Product Gone Bad -- Don't Buy Until It Is What It Once Was April 16, 2009 Ann Baker (USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought an WMF decanter about three years ago and would have rated that one 5 stars. It was beautiful -- wonderful lines, heavy glass, lovely etched WMF at the base, and, most importantly, it worked perfectly to aerate the wine quickly and poured without the tiniest drop spilling down the body of the decanter.
Unfortunately, my original one was broken. I immediately ordered another, but, to my great disappointment, the company had decided to knock off its own product.
The new version has similar but not the same lines (the shape is not nearly so lovely, nor does the indent at the bottom have the same exquisite incline), the glass is thin, and, most importantly, the thing drips, leaving spots on the table cloth and rings on the counter.
I returned the item, which I didn't want to give even a single star but had to because without rating an item a review cannot be posted.
I sorely miss my original WMF easy pour decanter and hope that the company will return to making a product both lovely and functional.
Perhaps if enough customers who bought the original complain the company will again make what was, but no longer is, a marvelous product.
