A balanced beauty, it has a rigid, 3"-long blade that curves gently up to a nice, tapered tip and an extremely smooth handle-to-blade joint, so there's virtually no chance of food or bacteria lodging between them.Features of SIGMAFORGE?? knives are:New one piece constructionHigh forging precisionHigher stability of bladePerfect geometryImproved steel structure for less metal fatigueImproved cutting-edge retention and lasting sharpnessImproved weight and balanceFRIODUR?? ice hardened for maximum no-stain properties and more blade strength
Amazon.com Review Part of the popular Four Star line, this hand-honed blade is made with Henckels' Sintermetal Component Technology (SCT), which allows three different grades of steel to be combined to form a single piece, fusing together the blade, bolster, and tang. What does this mean in layman's terms? It means a strong, high-quality knife that will last a lifetime. Founded in 1731, the J.A. Henckels company is not only one of the world's oldest cutlery manufacturers, it's also one of the most well respected, creating best-selling knives guaranteed to last a lifetime. --Kim Harwell From the Manufacturer | First introduced in 1976, the Four Star Series is one of the world's most popular knife lines. Choice little knife March 4, 2008 retiredprof (VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't think I'd ever again buy a German or French made kitchen knife: too heavy, too thick compared to Japanese knives. The reviews suggested that this knife was well made with a thinner blade and it was half the price of the next closest Japanese knife. Worth a try. Very nice knife. Light, sharp, good in the hand, and easy to clean. Initial very sharp edge has stayed sharp a long time where the French blade it replaced would have had to have been sharpened at least twice. Worth the money.
Great Paring Knife!!! February 29, 2008 Jillie Bean (USA) I have several knives from the 4 star collection of Henckels and have had them for years...I replaced this paring knife because I had lost mine and thought perhaps it wound up in the trash...so I bought a new one..and no sooner did it arrive then I found the missing one!...now I have two..but no biggie..they must be the most used knives in my kitchen for prep work..The other knife I love from this line is the Santuko Riveted knife...If you are looking for a great knife at a reasonable price give Henckels a try..you wont be sorry!
Impressive! January 28, 2008 Piccola (Ohio) My favorite. This paring knife is heftier than most, but well balanced and has a good feel in the hand. And it's attractive in appearance! Made in Germany. I'm not sure what they mean by "twin": it is a single knife with one single-edged blade (just like your average kitchen knife). Unlike many knives, however, the haft end of the blade thickens gradually and meets the end of the handle flush, rather than having the thin blade inserted into the handle. There must also be more of the blade steel that goes into the handle, since the balance point of the knife is about midlength. In general shape, it reminds me of a hunting knife my dad used to have.
I'd rather have one good knife then a whole set of dulls January 20, 2008 Stacey E. Lovett (Champaign, IL) I'm the kind of person that likes simplicity. I don't need a block of 20 knives when I can buy two or three high quality knives for a comparable price. I already have a JAH large knife. I needed something a bit smaller to complement it. For Christmas my mom got me a block of JAH knives for 49.99, though they were not the four-star quality. I took them back and bought only this knife, saving myself $30. It was a great exchange. I love this knife. I cut a lot of vegetables and fruit. This knife cuts clean through without catching. Highly recommended.
You only buy it once in a lifetime! January 15, 2008 K. Toby (long island ,ny) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I decided to treat myself to this knife after purchasing a 4 star 6 inch chef's knife and realizing just how good a Henckels knife is. Fit, finish, balance, ability to take and hold an edge make this a good investment.Prepping veggies, dicing,or delicately slicing "silverskin" off a piece of meat goes so much easier.Next purchase will be a 4 inch of same.I will not have to purchase another paring knife in my lifetime.Excellent quality and worth the money. By the way, I'm a firm believer in sharpening stones and steels but the Henckels knife sharpner is great.2 passes through (lightly) and your good to go for many cutting jobs.
