Amazon.com Review The blade size and excellent handle make the paring knife by Oxo the premiere small tool for the kitchen. Designed for small jobs but useful for big ones, too, the sharp, tapered blade slices through fruits and vegetables easily while the tension-absorbing rubber handle takes strain off the hands, even with repetitive motions. Pairing the sharpness of a larger knife with the agility of a smaller one, the mini chef's knife is the perfect invention for smaller tasks. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro

good grip, but can be improved September 22, 2008 J. Chin (Staten Island, NY USA) Average blade. Nice grip handles. However, over time, with use, the rubber handles slides off easily. The ridges in the rubber handle can make it hard to clean if you get gunk into it (using an old toothbrush helps get it out easily). With use any blade will get dull, but can be easily sharpened.
Mini chef knife is awesome June 13, 2008 P. Lamoureux (Northville, MI) I bought this for the chef knife, the paring knife was just a bonus. You'll be surprised how often you reach for the mini chef knife to cut vegetables, slice cheese, you name it. I bought one at a grocery store while on vacation then came home and ordered a few more through Amazon, it's that handy. It's thin, sharp, easy to handle and inexpensive. Great for camping too.
Utter junk February 21, 2007 Not my real name guy (Midwest) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own this set and it was a complete waste of money. I was originally attracted to these knives because I own a number of other Oxo Good Grips products and, with the exception of the garlic press (which has a mediocre design and rubber handles that fall off), I have been very pleased with the quality of their products. There are two problems with these knives: 1) The blades are made from cheap stainless steel that will not take or keep an edge. They are dull to the point of being dangerous and notwithstanding several attempts with my diamond sharpener, could not be made sharp. I would use a serated steak knife before I would use one of these knives. 2) The handles are very poor in design and construction. They have a portion of rubber ridges that are very soft and so flexible that they prevent obtaining a decent grip on the knife. They also are not shaped in a particularly ergonomic fashion and appear, as other people have commented, as if they would not stay long on the knife under any sort of heavy use. Avoid these knives - there are a multitude of better alternatives out there. Although I have no recommendations for a replacement for the small chef's knife, I do have a recommendation if you are looking for a good moderately priced paring knife: buy one of the Henckels or Victorinox plastic-handled 3" paring knives available here for around four dollars. These parers (I have one of each brand and they are similar in design, shape and quality) will take a nice edge, fit the hand much better and are less expensive, to boot. If you're willing to splurge a bit, I can highly recommend Kyocera's 3" ceramic paring knife. It will set you back thirty bucks or so, but it will have the sharpest edge you've ever experienced on a knife, sharp enough to cut a grape into a slice that is a fraction of a millimeter thick, think enough to be completely transparent.
Handy Duo January 12, 2007 K. May (PA) My daughter received these knives as a wedding gift and they are used more than any in her kitchen. They aren't the quality of the best German knives but if you don't put them in the dishwasher they will be knives you will enjoy for a long time.
very poor quality for OXO March 4, 2006 biscuit (Austin, TX) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love OXO products and own almost every product, but these knives are very poorly made. I had three sets, and the handles eventually came off on all six knives- very unsafe! Some handles slipped off, and some snapped off. I'm surprised OXO is still making and selling these knives, because the poor quality really tarnishes their reputation.
