Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
f ease of use is your primary consideration, one of these hand held sharpeners is the correct sharpening tool for you. They are suitable for all brands of knives. However, they cannot be used for serrated knives or knives sharpened on one side like the Bunmei knives. All of the MinoSharps have two ceramic wheels, a rough grit and a medium grit. Please note: the MinoSharp is only recommended for Global knives

Amazon.com Review
Recommended for sharpening Global knives but not necessarily those from other manufacturers, this device employs two ceramic wheels--one coarse, the other fine--to return a dull knife to working order. Using the sharpener is simple and easy. Fill the wheels' compartment with water so your blade is continuously washed while it's being sharpened. Then draw a knife seven or eight times through the coarse (white) wheel. Then draw your blade seven or eight times through the fine (pink) wheel to bring it back to life. The sharpener's plastic handle is shaped so it can be gripped firmly and safely and has a soft, rubber-like insert for comfort. --Fred Brack

3 out of 5 stars Yoshikin makes two similar sharpeners...   August 4, 2008
N. Landi
I'm posting this as a comment, not as a review. Yoshikin makes two sharpeners that look almost identical, model numbers GS-220 and GS-440. The model where the plastic covering of the ceramic wheels extends to the sharpener's handle is the GS-440. The model I posted this comment for is the GS-220. The 440 goes for ~$50 whereas the 220 goes for ~$35. To be honest, I don't know how the two differ technically. Yoshikin claims the 440 is a heavy duty version of the 220 and is designed to work on German knives as well as Global knives (the 220 is only recommended for Global knives).

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, easy to use   June 26, 2008

This is the perfect sharpening device for people who own Global knives. It's extremely easy to use. You fill it with water, run the knife through the coarse dial a few times (making sure not to apply too much pressure to the knife), then run it through the fine dial a few times. Next thing you know, you have a knife that is good as new. My Global knives have gone from dull and giving me a lot of trouble cutting through vegetables to being able to just set the knife on top of a vegetable and let gravity do its work to cut through. All it took was a use of the minosharp in between.

3 out of 5 stars Classy Chef   June 9, 2008
Well, I purchased this product at the same time I ordered the Global knife since it seemed to be recommended. It's just ok. Nothing to rave about. In fact, I like my little fish-shaped one I got from Home Depot for just $10 much better.

5 out of 5 stars Works Well for my Global Chef's Knife   June 1, 2008
Robert M. Wilson (Sunbury, Ohio USA)
After emailing several places, I found this is the correct sharpener for my Global Chef's knife. I was concerned about keeping the edge at the same angle as it was originally. The clear plastic tray cover lifts off easily so water can be added to the tray. Simply roll the knife through several times and the edge is back to original condition. I recommend this sharpener to keep your knife like new.

4 out of 5 stars Great for Globals   February 23, 2008
N. S. Schaeffer (San Diego, CA)
Definitely does great on sharpening the Globals. Barely any effort, seems fool-proof. Doesn't restore the blade completely, but much faster and easier than a stone and a ceramic honer (which I've dropped and broken 3 in the past 8 years or so). I tried it with other knives and gave up after a while, seems to take a lot more strokes with minimal improvement.
