Product Description A good cook is nothing without sharpened knives. Use this 10-in. Sharpening steel before cutting, chopping and slicing and your knives will perform at their best. The high-carbon construction and sturdy handle make it easy to use. Simply hold knives at a 45-degree angle and pull across in a swift motion a dozen or so times, alternating sides, and in seconds you'll be ready for action. Features a loop on the handle for hanging. Has it's own slot in most Wusthof knife blocks.
Amazon.com Review A sharpening steel is an indispensable tool for keeping your knife collection in its best cutting shape. This 10-inch Wuesthof model is made for the job, with a sturdy non-slip handle and a magnetic steel that attracts metal fibers while you sharpen. The tool's square handle provides a good grip and allows easy revolution of the steel to spread the work around its surface. Fitted with a loop for hanging storage, the steel also stashes tidily in most knife blocks. --Emily Bedard

Great addition November 11, 2008 Anita A. Goeller The sharpening steel has been a great addition to our Wustof collection, and it fits perfectly in a Christmas stocking!
Not all steels are the same! June 28, 2008 Warren J. Dew (Somerville, MA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
A lot of people assume that all sharpening steels are the same. That is not true. I've owned this sharpening steel for about 6 years. It replaced a steel I had been using for about 20 years. I usually hone my knives between every use. With my previous steel, it typically took 4-10 swipes to restore a razor edge, with occasional resharpening using an alumina (carborundum) stone; with this steel, I can get the same razor edge in 1-2 swipes, and never need to use the stone. This is consistent with some hardness measurements I've seen on the web, which indicated that Wusthof sharpening steels were significantly harder than those from other major manufacturers, including their closest competitor, Henckels. There is one downside to this steel: the steel itself only extends about half an inch into the plastic handle. If you just plop it into its slot in the knife block after each use, the steel will eventually fall out of the handle. It's not terribly difficult to force the steel back into the handle, though, and I can put up with having to do that every few years in exchange for the pleasure of using this steel on my knives.

Wuesthof 10-Inch Sharpening Steel How can it be bad? It is made of a handle and has a circular piece of steel running up the center. There are no moving parts, no batteries to replace, limitless shelf life, nothing to go wrong. I am quite sure that after several centuries of use, it will need replacement. It is a quality item and unless you are wildly uncoordinated will get the job done.
It is what it is... November 18, 2005 Lance Jacobs (California) 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
If you want a solid, normal steel, this is it. It's nothing fancy, but it will help keep your knives sharp between professional sharpenings (You do get your knives sharpend professionally, don't you?). I'm happy with mine; I've been using it for over a year now.
Nice Steel October 25, 2005 Jay 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
At least it would have been, if they had been able to send it. Continually they show Kitchen type items in stock when they aren't, be aware of this, and watch your order or you could sit for weeks waiting for something that will never arrive.
