Amazon.com Review Royal Doulton, founded in 1815, is one of England's famed producers of fine bone china. They have established a reputation for incorporating modern sensibilities into designs inspired and informed by historical and natural imagery. Their Chanticlair pattern, a new design in 2004, has as its central inspiration the rooster, proud herald of dawn and a symbol of prosperous, bountiful county living. This 14-inch Chanticlair rooster figurine would make a lovely visual focus in a country-themed kitchen. The hollow ceramic rooster is texturally detailed, from its ribbed feet to the top of the cockscomb; the tail feathers even drape and curve separately. The colors range from the cream of the bare bone china through washed-out tones of green, red, and gold and up to the bold wine-red of the rooster's comb and wattle. The rooster stands over a heap of summer fruits and vegetables in mostly rosy tones with deep green foliage. This figurine seems to be at the center of the Chanticlair design scheme; variations within the pattern include Floral, Criss-Cross, Gold, and Sculpted pieces. Because of the amount of textural and painted detail, the Chanticlair rooster figurine should be washed by hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft, nonabrasive cloth. (Other Royal Doulton Chanticlair pieces are dishwasher safe, however.) The Chanticlair rooster figurine measures 14 by 12 by 6 inches. Royal Doulton guarantees that a chosen pattern will be available for two years after initial purchase. --Garland Withers
