Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Designed by Susan Williams-Ellis in 1972 Botanic Garden is a ground breaking pattern, over 30 different flowers adorn the collection. Each plate and cup in the patterns is produced in a variety of different flowers and the whole mix and match pattern is unified by the unique drawings, flitting butterflies and distinctive leaf border. Oven-to-table, microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe porcelain.
Amazon.com Review Inspired by 19th-century botanical illustrations, Portmeirion Botanic Garden dinnerware features a lush array of hand-painted blossoms. The pieces are perfect for a mix-and-match sensibility and suitable for year-round dining. Made in Britain from high-quality porcelain, they are safe in the oven, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher. Executed with incredible detail, these Botanic Garden dinner plates display the pattern's floral images in graceful variation. Each piece features a different central illustration of a flower surrounded by butterflies on the wing. The vibrant drawings are labeled with the flowers' Latin and common names and bordered with a wreath of laurel leaves on the slanted rim. The set includes six plates in all, featuring a clematis, a peony, a lily, a Christmas rose, a magnolia, and an azalea. Each plate measures 10-1/2 inches in diameter. --Emily Bedard

5 out of 6 March 2, 2008 curious one This was an order of a 6 plate set. One plate arrived broken. Amazon refused to either replace the plate or give me a refund for that one plate. They suggested instead that they would pay for the entire set to be returned, and give me a refund for the entire set. Since even with 1 plate broken, the set was still a very good price, I decided to keep the remaining 5 plates, although I would have preferred a refund for that one broken plate or a substitute.
Question? November 20, 2007 sallymou (Jericho, VT United States) Were these shipments all the same pattern or were they mixed patterns? I'd like to order these, but prefer a mixed lot so I can mix and match with other pieces I have in the same style.
Plates great - shipping grates! January 20, 2007 Herbert R. Kaupp (Cape Cod, MA) The plates are great. We gave them to our daughter for Christmas. However, the plates were shipped in their unsheltered box in a bigger box with packing insulation on one end to fill out the box. The box had no protective insulation on the top or the bottom. One of the plates were broken. The return department people were very sympathetic and said they would have another set of plates shipped overnight, with better packaging. The plates arrived the day after Christmas, which was guite quick; however, they were packaged the same way as the first set! Fortunately, no plates were broken. The shipping department should be trained better - they should be shown the difference between plates and books.
wonderful plates January 6, 2006 Neil Etter (Maryland) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had the same situation, where one plate was crushed. What a shame it is too, because I wonder what will happen to the rest of the plates when I return them. My replacements came packaged the same way, but this time all were in good condition. i ordered the Holly and the Ivey set too earlier, and they came fine -- from Fed Ex, as did my replacement set of Botanicals, but the set of Bo's that had a plate crushed was USPS! I am not even sure why my H&I set came Fed Ex, but I am glad because did not want to wait to use them! At any rate, these plates feel good in the hand, have nice deep edges/rims to keep food from easily sliding out - a plus for living room eating. The illustrations are very well done too. I wish there were more! I am into gardening, and it appears that the flowers on the plates are not typical here in the States, but for the peony. No matter, just a tid-bit. Who knows I may be wrong, and living in Maryland, I am only going with what grows in this growing zone. Cheers and enjoy!
Portmeiron Plates, nice service September 15, 2005 Pavelow 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First shipment came within the specified time line, but the box was crushed and one plate was broken. Within minutes of my phone call to Amazon (even in the late evening) I had an RMA and printed out the packing slip the next day. They had already shipped the replacement order before I got the damaged goods in the mail at no charge to me (other than the gas to stop at UPS). New shipment arrived in a week. 4 Stars because they did not change the packing materials like I had suggested. Overall, nice service, nice plates.
