Bodacious pepper grinder! March 12, 2010 flygal In the past year I've been replacing all my small gadgets and utensils with easy-to-use, updated products, and I purchased this wonderful OXO pepper grinder along with its equally wonderful twin, the salt grinder. I have only ever owned pepper shakers, where the fine stuff floats out and eventually lands on your food, and where's the aesthetic in that? This is a whole lot of fun to use, and it works so well. First you have the lovely heft of it in your hand -- it feels good to hold. It's full of many peppercorns. You get to go through the ritual of picking your grind -- five to choose from. And then you have the feel and the sound of grinding pepper and the sight of pepper flakes falling where they may. Other reviewers complain about the fine setting, but I love the somewhat coarse grind I get, with the slightly uneven flakes. This pepper mill looks great in the kitchen. I never used to use pepper so much, but now I put it on everything, just because it's so much fun. My boyfriend admires these grinders every time he's here, so I just bought him a set. No problems with the little door for loading peppercorns, and I've had this baby for six months. Highly recommended.
Best ever pepper mill March 6, 2010 Kevin Mckay (Pacific Northwest, USA) Sometimes the small background tools and appliances are the ones that really stand out, and that's certainly the case with this pepper mill. It is hard to describe, fully, just how well designed this seemingly simple tools is, and how well it works. Far easier to load than any mill I have ever used, this product feels perfect in the hand. It grinds smoothly and evenly, at all of the various grind settings you can click your way through. I really don't see how a pepper mill could be any better in design or function.
One minor caveat: as other reviewers have noted, this mill sits upright, with the refilling lid on the bottom and the grinder/shaker on top. You pick it up and tip it over to use it, silver end down. We have had a guest who used this assuming, like most mills, it operates in the same position as it sits on the counter. Result was they managed to open the refill lid and dumped the unground pepper corns over their plate. So do your guests a favor and make sure they know to tip it upside down to work it. ;-)
Highly recommend, and for the price you won't find a better pepper mill.
Pepper corn everywhere! February 22, 2010 T. Porter (Minneapolis, MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Besides looking like an automatic grinder, which of course it is not, it did grind a lot of pepper quickly. However, I just threw it out after the bottom spontaneously open this morning for the 3 time.
Super grinderbought togethe February 14, 2010 C. A. Whitehouse (NY, USA) Purchased with the salt grinder. Perfect match and excellent grinding. Able to titrate your grind consistency. Very stylish.
Good Quality February 14, 2010 crockerrl (Maine, USA) I really like this style grinder although I wish the fine setting was actually fine. I'm used to the fine grind of a regular pepper shaker. It is a good quality grinder. I purchased 2 of these and 2 of the matching salt grinders. I like the glass style.
