Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The new Columbia line combines stunning elegance of form with the best materials for perfect function. The double-walled stainless steel thermal press keeps your coffee or tea hot for more wake-up calls than you'll ever need. The Columbia thermal press holds 12 cups.

Amazon.com Review
Most coffee roasters and tea buyers recommend using a coffee or tea press to enjoy the beverages at their best, but the devices have typically offered one major disadvantage--the brewed coffee or tea cooled quickly within the glass carafe. The Bodum Columbia thermal press overcomes this shortcoming with its double-walled stainless-steel construction, which insulates hot coffee or tea to keep it warm for up to two hours. The end result is a rich, flavorful beverage with perfectly extracted flavors and aromas.

To use the Columbia press for coffee, grind fresh beans to a coarse consistency, add 2 tablespoons of coffee for every 6 ounces of water, then add hot water and brew for four to five minutes before plunging the press. Tea brews in the same manner, but with whole tea leaves instead. The press holds up to 48 ounces of liquid--enough for 12 small cups of coffee (4 ounces each)--and features Bodum's patented safety lid to keep the contents from spilling. For best results, users should dedicate the press to brewing one beverage only, as coffee and tea flavors tend to cross over when brewed separately in the same vessel. The Columbia coffee and tea press is dishwasher-safe. --Rivers Janssen

5 out of 5 stars Takes some experimenting to get the perfect brew   January 7, 2009
Carol L. Ahrens (LI, NY)
We are used to perk coffee in the Farberware coffee pot. We liked this press after having coffee at a friend's house....but, I find it takes much experimenting to adjust the strength of the coffee flavor. We tried doing it the way the directions guide you, but we found it was strong tasting....we tried diluting the strength on our second go-round, but I guess we will have to keep on making small decreases in the quantity of coffee in order to get it "just right". It does save you $$ because you won't have to buy paper filters, and I like the adaptability of it being useful for brewing tea as well as coffee. The unit itself is sturdy and I won't be able to break it like I did with my old Bodum glass beaker unit. Well worth the price we felt. If you like your coffee strong, this is definitely for you!!

5 out of 5 stars Large Thermal French Press   November 16, 2008
L. Arcieri (Fremont, CA United States)
We recently discovered the french press method for making coffee. This method is quick and simple and produces a rich cup of coffee. The presses I could find were small and I found myself making many batches when we had guests.
This large french press will make enough coffee to serve 5-6 people with one batch. It also keeps the coffee warm for a long period of time. I also found that this press produces a cleaner coffee with fewer grounds getting past the filter. Although a bit pricey, I would recommend this product.

5 out of 5 stars Great Coffee!   October 14, 2008
M. Schafer (Germany)
While my only other coffee press experience has been a small 5-cup glass press I used for 6 months in the desert... I'm more than happy with this one! Holds much more, stays hot and easy to clean overall.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect size for a crowd   September 11, 2008
V. Douglas
I frequently have guests over for coffee, and this is the perfect size so I do not have to brew 2 pots. And it keeps the coffee warm for a significant amount of time.

5 out of 5 stars Making coffee & tea just got better   August 10, 2008
plasticlizard
Been using this press for about three months now. Never used a press before in my life but heard this was the way to go. This includes making coffee or tea. I read about the four to five minute rule for brewing coffee which is extremely fast! The five minute brew works for me because I like the richer taste. What I didnt know was how to make proper tea with the press. After a little trial and no errors ;) I came up with what I think is a great way to brew tea.

-Heat your water in the microwave. While that's happening put loose tea in the press. This depends on how much your gonna make.

-Pour the warm water in the press. Put the lid on but dont press. Let that sit for however long you prefer your strength of tea.

-Press it then pour into your container.

-Outstanding!

Final thoughts...

-A very solid carafe
-Sturdy handle
-Drip-proof spout
-Heavy duty stainless steel
-Plastic filter with a silicone seal

This press is of the highest quality and built to last.
