These 6-1/4-inch bread-and-butter plates are each meant to hold a roll or slice of bread and an individual pat of butter and should be placed to the left of each service plate just above the forks when setting a formal table. Basic without being boring, these plates, as part of Villeroy & Boch's Dune Lines collection, offer a smooth, cream-colored palette on which to highlight food's colors. The rounded rims slope gently up and then down again, forming a slightly down-turned lip and resembling the natural contoured crests of a sand dune. The unexpected design elements are the textured, imperfectly formed beige striations that cut across each plate, meant to imitate the wind-formed linear ripples found in sand dunes. This chic dinnerware matches best in kitchens with a more modern decor; however, the subtle colors allow it to blend in most anywhere. These plates not only coordinate with other pieces in the Dune Lines collection, but also can be mixed and matched with pieces in Villeroy & Boch's Palm and City Life collections. Made of vitrified porcelain, the plates appear slightly translucent but offer the weight and strength of earthenware. I ordered Villeroy & Boch Dune Bread and Butter Plates, Set of 6 but I got just one plate.And they responsed that set of 6 means the size of plate.I was very frustrated and I'll never order any items from amazon macy.
