A great addition to a Dutch Oven; a must have November 17, 2008 William C. Boggs 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just what I expected and works perfectly. The legs on it are just high enough to do the job of keeping direct heat from causing meat to stick to the bottom of the oven. If you're looking for something to keep meat out of the juices, than buy more than one and stack them or use some sort of spacer under it but I like it the way it is; meat brazing in it's juices isn't a bad thing.
Excellent Trivet! October 12, 2008 K. Davis (Oklahoma City, OK USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using this as a trivet on my study table, on top of a cutting mat that doesn't do well with heat applied to it. This little rascal works great at protecting the mat and forms a very stable surface. We also bought a 14" Lodge Logic cast iron pizza pan, which we love! We have decided it may be best not to set it on the electric stove when hot from the oven, so this seems an ideal time to order another of these trivets. The trivet is plain, but attractive. Because the legs are short, it's quite steady. It's just dandy!
More trivet than rack October 9, 2008 Edward J. Henderson (near Charlotte, NC USA) As others have noted- it's really more of a trivet than a "rack", per se; it'd be better-suited to keeping roasts/birds out of the bottom juices if it were somewhat taller (another half-inch or so would be plenty). Even with this limitation, it's still a useful addition to the collection.
Not a great deal August 13, 2008 Oregon (Portland, OR) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
To me, a trivet or rack indicates it would have little "legs" on this to raise it off the bottom of the pan. This is just a flat piece of iron with holes in it, so doesn't really allow any space to keep the meat or other food from sitting in its own grease. So I don't really see the point of it. If it wasn't so heavy to mail back, I would have returned it.
Extra Grill Grate July 29, 2008 L. F. Slikkers (Grill City IN) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I own 3 of these trivets, and have as yet to use it for the intended purpose. My favorite application has been to use it as a warming tray attached to my Lodge Sportsman Grill. With $2.50 worth of parts from my local hardware store I was able to make an add on warming tray that I can adjust the distance to the grill surface and rotate it to any position over the cooking grate. I also use one of these over a flowerpot with coals inside or a #10 tin can with coals inside when I need a quick temporary "throwaway" grill. That way I still have a good quality cast iron cooking surface. Love the Lodge quality.
