Very Disappointed! November 19, 2008 LisaP (CT) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I used this steamer for about 3 weeks and it completely stopped producing steam. I called Conair and they told me that it was probably calcified (only after 3 weeks!!) and to clean it with vinegar and water. I tried it and it still wouldn't work. I called them back because it's under warranty and they told me I was better taking it back to the store because shipping back and forth to Conair would be near $100. Well I bought it from Linen n Things which is going out of business and won't accept returns so now I'm just out of luck. This is a terrible product and terrible customer service from Conair.
Beware! November 17, 2008 Gypsy's Mom 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all, the item I received was defective. It was supposedly "new". No steam at all and the cord retractor doesn't work. I called Conair to be sure it was the item and not me. They told me it was defective and to return it to Amazon. I began the ordeal of returning it. I am a fairly intelligent woman, but not a particularly strong one. I could not disassemble it. It just refused, despite my useless attempts to put it back into the box the way it came. I managed to get it into a larger box and prepared to take it to the post office. Amazon assured me they would send a replacement. Then came another email from Amazon advising me that it would be SIX WEEKS before I could expect a replacement! The item is still offered for sale on the site as IN STOCK, but not for me, apparently!
Renewed my faith in fabric steamers! November 17, 2008 B. Beth (United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love this garment steamer. Let me say, I am pretty experienced with this type of item; I have three portable fabric steaming units of all different brands, and I had one large standing unit much like this, but of a different brand. I used my old wheeled unit so much that I killed it in many ways - from the pole breaking off to the hose cracking, until it finally started smoking and I had to toss it (3x/week for a year). Anyway - that was just to establish I am very familiar with steamers. If you aren't yet, or even if you're a fellow connoisseur, you will love this steamer. If you hate ironing - finding the right temperature for an article of clothing, getting around decorative areas or button holes, ironing a dress with tons of fabric where it winds up pressing wrinkles just from rotating it so much, this technology, and this unit, is for YOU! This unit is FANtastic. It heats up in less than one minute which is pretty rare. I was worried that the steam might not be strong enough as it's silent and seems a bit gentle, but it does the job just right. There is practically no sound at all which is delightful - as with any hose if it's too low the steam condenses in the hose and will make a gurgling sound until you raise it straight up for a second. My cats were wary, but not afraid of this unit (good indicator of noise). I love the following features: *retractable and 8' cord (!) *very easy to open and fill - and therefore to drain the water reservoir *the built in 'clothes hanger' with two hooks for your own hangers *the 'pause' steam feature *the fact you can use it at any angle and it won't really drip on your clothes *retractable pole means you can store it more easily - less prone to break while waiting to use again *pants creaser!? Cool!! Neutral: the ion feature. I'm an ion nerd - I have three sharper image ionic breezes & a nightlight, and I swear by them - but I'm not sure the ion feature really 'does' anything. The plain steam made my clothing smell fresh (slight plastic-y smell when first running the new unit) but I could not smell the ions coming out from anywhere with my nose to it when I turned this function on, and yet I know it was functioning as the light was on, and I could hear a change in the sound. But, that is definitely the least important feature of this unit! Also neutral on the hose heat - it's quite hot - enough that if you touch it it might make you retract your hand quickly - but it's not BURNING hot which is good :) Con: *The two removable 'heads' (for different types of fabric) never seem to really snap on - they don't attach in a satisfying kind of way. I can finagle them to stay on flush, but they don't really seem 'on.' I almost wondered if they were made for a different unit by Conair and then (retro)fit to this one instead. More about great things: *the built in 'hanger' - I know one reviewer said it was useless, but I found it fantastic. You just drop your garment on top of it, or button a shirt it around and steam like that. With sweaters that you might fold and not hang in your closet/bureau, this is especially a time saver. Sure, it doesn't work with pants so well (you can put the pants around it - just put on from beneath) but that's why it includes two hooks for your own hangers. I also LOVE the one-touch button to retract the top! very nice to get it out of the way if desired. Also it hold the head quite securely - ditto for the pants creaser. *Steam pause: Just hit the pedal with your foot by a caster, and a red light comes on telling you it's pausing and not wasting steam. If you don't know why this really matters, when you have a huge pile to steam, every bit you can save will let you keep working longer by saving the steam. Sometimes I'd turn off my old unit but then there was a waiting period (taking clothes across the apt to closets, phone rings, various distractions, etc) for it to heat back up. This is a superb feature. *pants creaser: handy little unit, it functions a bit like a straightening iron with a 'plate' where the steam comes out, and a plastic frame on the other side which you hold together to create a pants seam. This is one of the things which has still left me ironing, getting a good pants crease - but this is a super add-on! Also, please note that you can hold the clamp a bit tighter to get a more firm/deep pants crease. The only thing this steamer can't handle is, for me, the dreaded linen fabric. If I try to steam the wrinkles out after wearing my skirt, which then has some deep-set wrinkles, I'm just out of luck. This is the ONLY item it hasn't worked for me, though! I suspect that the linen fibers need pressing of the iron. This steamer works for me for: curtains, table cloths, very formal clothing (gowns of taffeta, sequins, or with ruching!), basically every fabric, sweaters, pants, coats, wool is DELIGHTFUL to steam! Very instant gratification to use this steamer, and you won't believe steaming your coats or woolen items. If it's wrinkled you can probably safely and effectively steam it - always test a small area first! :) Enjoy!
Great results and easy to use July 8, 2008 Violetta I. Sansone (San Diego County, CA USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this steamer when I got way behind on my ironing and got tired of piles of laundry on the floor (clean), I have a 24 months old and a 3 months old and work part time and take care of the house and cook, I had absolutely no time to iron. I am not going to make things seem better, I will only say that since my second child was born I only managed to iron once for about 4 hours. I bought this steamer today when I went to buy a new bigger ironing board (did not buy it). Once I turned this steamer on, I did ALL of the "ironing" in one evening, I'd guess it took me 4.5-5 hours. I want to say it again, I had A LOT to iron, 4 big piles! I am so happy that I can see my carpet now. And it did a good job, it comes with a crease attachment that works pretty good. Be sure to use some props as the steam is super hot. The hose did not get hot on me at all, I had my toddler walk around and touch it many times, no worries, it is double insulated. Don't even hesitate and buy this steamer. You know that if anything goes wrong you have a 1 year warranty on it. The only 3 complains I have is that I wish the pole was higher, I am 5'4" and had to sit down a bit to steam and it got to my lower back after a while, and another complain I have is that the hanger it comes with is useless for hanging clothes, it holds that steamer head and that's about it. You will find yourself hanging your clothes on regular hangers and hanging that onto the hanger the steamer comes with. And the final comment I have is that the steam runs out pretty quick, I wish the unit held more water, an hour flies by. Also, buy it at Target. I bought mine at Linens'n'Things for $20 more.
I love this! November 26, 2007 A. D. (Texas) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I searched high and low and looked at all types of steamers online along with their reviews. I saw this one and loved the ion feature and without ANY reviews at the time I bought it. I am glad that I did. I hate ironing and will do everything possible to avoid it, but I WILL use this. I will just stand there and knock out the wrinkles while I am watching TV or a movie and it doesn't interfere with my family watching or take up too much space. It is really really nice and has done wonders on items that were in the dryer too long (ahem... over the weekend that is). Buy it and enjoy.... it looks good too!
