Amazon.com Review The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box. At 10-1/4 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep, this 5-quart Dutch oven holds a heap of chili, chicken and rice, or fruit cobbler. This model is not the campfire style, with legs, wire handle, and a lid for coals. This one is flat-bottomed to sit on a stovetop burner or in the oven, with a domed lid that sends moisture back into the pot. Loop handles aid in carrying with oven mitts. While the Dutch oven comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After the meal is done, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately. Lodge covers the sturdy oven with a lifetime limited warranty against defects, and when cared for properly, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations. --Ann Bieri

cast iron dutch oven January 7, 2009 betteb (New Jersey) Only used it once so far......but it's a pot and works fine! I have other cast iron Lodge products and like them. They last forever and cook wonderfully on the outside BBQ.
Use it as an asian wok January 6, 2009 P. Yang My husband and I are cast iron lovers. We bought a Lodge frying pan a year ago and then decided to have a larger and deeper one, we use it as a wok, mostly stir fry, stew, as you can expect for any cast iron, it is not good for acid food (like tomato etc. the color will be darker). But it is good for everyday asian style cooking. It is heavy, yet sturdy. Easy to clean, just hot water will do. We have a set of stainless cookware, now we rarely use it anymore.
Wonderful Dutch Oven December 20, 2008 Lynn K I could not be more pleased with this product. The pre-seasoning was perfect, and the oven is extremely versatile. I have had excellent results cooking breads, casseroles, stews and roasted meats in my 5qt. The 5qt is a nice size to use when cooking for 2-4 people. I do follow care instructions to the letter and have had absolutely no problems with rust or with degradation of the cooking surface. I would recommend storing the oven on a wire rack to promote air circulation and to prevent unabsorbed oil you've rubbed on the exterior from transferring to your cabinet liner. Love it!
Can't live without it December 16, 2008 Botts (Tiburon California) It's difficult to get my wife to cook with anything else. Not just for camping. Just toss everything in and put it on the stove. Things seem much better than when cooked in other pots. Highly recommended. You just don't want to take it backpacking.
Love it! December 16, 2008 Dian D. Chapman (Chicago, IL United States) I;d never gotten around to getting a Dutch Oven before. But I wanted to learn to make French Onion Soup and it suggested using one. So I finally bought one...this one. I LOVE it! I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes and using this is just such a great way to slowly cook things to get the best flavors out of the food...without burning things. And this is a perfect size for the cooking I do. My veggie stocks come out so much better using a Dutch Oven to roast the veggies. One of the best things I every bought...next to my wok. And this one is amazing quality for the price.
