It may be reconditioned, but it works like new. Great!

You can set the slide for the amount of cups you want to grind.

There is powder with the grind.

5 out of 5 stars These work great   January 6, 2009

I have purchased three of these. One for myself and two as gifts. I've been using mine for over a year now with no troubles. It grinds coffee well, with little mess or fuss. I shopped quite a lot before deciding to buy this model. And then found the reconditioned ones for much less. I'm not sure what was reconditioned on it, but I can't tell it from new in look or function.

5 out of 5 stars Cuisanart Burr Coffee Grinder   January 6, 2009
Downeaster (Maine, USA)
We had a burr coffee bean grinder for the past six years. It's major shortcoming was the small amount of roasted beans that it held. Needing replacement, this Cuisanart has a much larger storage capacity for the beans, a real convenience. The motor seems more powerful than our old grinder yet its sound remains relatively quiet for the work it does. The ground coffee is easy to remove without spilling, The "reconditioned" lowered our purchase price but not the quality. Definitely a good appliance. I might add that we roast our own beans. With that added labor for a good cup of coffee, we also expect our grinder to compliment the entire coffee brewing process.

3 out of 5 stars On my second Cuisinart Grinder   December 31, 2008

I bought one of these new a couple years ago, and loved it. It did perfectly, everything I wanted a grinder to do. But in less than a year, as many reviewers have posted, it just up and quit.

For the past 6 months, I've been grinding my beans in the store or using my Magic Bullet. My husband worked nights and slept in mornings, so I didn't miss the loud motor. But now that he's back on early morning shift and I'm alone in the morning at coffee-making time, I decided to look for a new grinder.

I wasn't going to get another Cuisinart, as I just don't find the quality of their appliances to be very good. But I looked and read reviews of every other burr grinder made in a similar price range (I can't afford the $200-$500 machines) and none of them seemed to have the same bundle of features, like a hopper that holds a 1/2 pound of beans, the easy dial to select fine/coarse, the auto-select amount of beans you want ground, etc. And those that did seemed to have the SAME number of complaints that they one day just quit working.

So I had just decided I would come here, take my chances, and order another Cuisinart, when while browsing in Big Lots (retail discount store) I found a refurbished one for $20. I guess it's telling that there are so many refurbished ones available. Yes, it does look and perform like brand new. It also doesn't seem as noisy as my former one but I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. But it's an attractive machine and I'm really happy to have it back, I missed it. If it only lasts a year again, I'll feel like I got my $20 bucks worth.

I would recommend to anyone, save your money and a little frustration and get a refurbished and not a new one. So many people report that they just up and quit, that I bet in every case, what's been replaced is the motor that quit working in a year's time or less. So these refurbs are going to perform and last as long as brand new ones. Which probably ain't that long. But I would be happy to replace it annually for $20.
