Indirect cooking is the method of choice for larger cuts of meat such as ribs, roasts, whole chickens, or delicate foods like some types of fish. However, arranging hot coals evenly around the outside of a grill can prove messy, difficult, and even dangerous. This pair of fuel holders solves the problem by holding charcoal or wood chunks firmly in place, allowing you to place a pan in the center of the grill to capture drippings and prevent flare-ups.  Great for heat control January 9, 2009

These products are great to easily control and position your heat source in your grill. I only gave 4 stars because after a lot of uses they start to kind of fall apart from being hot all the time I presume.
Be advised that by "a lot of uses" I mean a lot. I have used my current set in excess of 100 times and they're still barely starting to show degenerative changes.

These things are great. I usually put them in the middle of the cooking area. It gives me direct heat in the center for searing and indirect oven like cooking around the edges. Great for chicken. A real charcol saver for me as I can pour the charcol into the trays and build a nice mound with out the strays rolling away. It has made my outdoor cooking alot easier.

I recently bought theses baskets and I've cooked ribs with them twice. I have a standard Weber kettle and these baskets are probably a little too large for it. I used both halves the first time I cooked and ended up cooking my ribs too quickly because they created so much heat. The second time I only used one half of the basket and I was able to cook the ribs much slower. They turned out great this way!
