VCR Plus is also added for ease of recording your favorite programs.i.Link Digital Input enables video and audio streaming without loss of quality. The thumbnail image for chapter selection can be changed to any image you choose, and chapter marks can be added for quick scene selection. Universal Remote controls all functions of the DVD-RW recorder and will also control another manufacturer's TV- power, volume, channel selection. Analog Input allows you to connect other video sources for recording. There are 3 S-video /composite video inputs. Progressive Output delivers color clarity and dynamic picture quality. The DV-RW2U is an integrated DVD recorder and player that lets you make simple, one-touch video recordings onto durable, rewriteable DVDs for collecting, sharing, time-shifted viewing, and video archiving. The DV-RW2U records up to 4.7 gigabytes (GB) of data at a spell, making it ideal for preserving and archiving digital photographs, home videos, and presentations with high picture and sound quality. Unlike VHS tapes, the DV-RW2U offers a main menu for easy searching and chapter replay. DVD-RWs can be re-recorded up to 1,000 times. You can also record on standard DVD-R and play back formats like CD-RW, CD-R, and standard CDs. The DV-RW2U's enhanced disc-navigation system with thumbnail display provides instant scene choice from a disc's table of contents. It's possible to record up to eight programs with the touch of a button using timer recording. The "Just Recording" feature checks the disc capacity each time you insert a DVD-RW, and not only does it determine how much additional space is left, but it will never record over a disc without first alerting you. The DV-RW2U records up to two hours of video in standard mode (SP) and up to six hours in manual mode (MN). When recording, the DV-RW2U provides helpful features like title option, which makes it easy to edit and rename different segments as they're being recorded. In the audio department, this unit--like other DVD recorders--compresses all incoming audio signals with Dolby Digital 2.0, which conserves space but slightly compromises audio quality. A set of left/right analog-audio outputs benefit from 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters, channeling DVD and CD sound to audio/video receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Additional features include a DV terminal with iLink for direct digital video transfer from digital camcorders, four-step fast forward/reverse, and slow four-step forward and two-step reverse.

cumbersome dinosaur - should be taken out and shot June 20, 2008 therealtom winberry (x) this is one of the worst products I've ever encountered. Out put ports don't put out, functions do not begin with the push of a button... they seem to get around to it eventually. The interface is complicated and the manual (of course) is gibberish. Nothing "sharp" about it.
Worked Great for over a Year... December 14, 2006 Sarah Bellam (Pebble Beach, CA USA) I've had this machine for well over a year and have had no problems with it until now. In fact, I was quite pleased with it (considering it was so inexpensive). It had some limitations (takes a bit of a while to load discs compared to some other machines, making it take a longer to be able to record a program), but these are probably due to it being an older generation machine anyway. The machine had been working very solidly, no real complaints. But now it will not longer read ANY discs at all. It will not read blank, previously recorded, or even commercial discs.
Why can't I give no stars? December 2, 2005 J. Greene (Orangeburg, South Carolina USA) I have been an electronic nut for years and my mom and dad wanted to purchase me a reliable DVD recorder. I got this one. I am now so afraid of DVD recorders that I won't buy another one. This one worked for exactly 10 recordings. Now nothing. Zilch. Zero. I can't even play the discs that it recorded on it. I can still play commercially produced DVDs and the Dolby Digital is awesome on my surround sound system (Harmon Kardon receiver and Klipsch speakers), but I can't do anything else. I took this to the repair shop three times and they claim that nothing is wrong. I call Sharp and they tell me to try slower recordable speed discs. I even tried to change disc brands, nothing works. I really want a DVD recorder, but if this is how all of them act, then I will stick with VHS for the moment.

I have 4 DVD recorders.I have 3 Panasonics (great machines) & wanted a 4th but because of the IR remote I was limited to 3.So I needed another brand and SHARP had a good price (it seemed, incorrectly)so I got the SHARP.It is an amazing BAD machine. It doesn't work correctly and getting it fixed is a nightmare. I just sent it back for the second time,it returned today and they fixed NOTHING.It is a true Nightmare,STAY AWAY!!!

Makes perfect DVD copies of home movies recorded on VHS or 8mm. Includes a firewire port for making perfect copies of mini DV camcorders. I only record in the Fine mode yielding about 1 hr per 4.7 GB DVD-R. Also records to DVD-RW if you want to reuse the disc over and over. DVD-R seems to be the most backward-compatible format if you wish to share those home movies with friends. Manual is very informative, but these machines are fairly complicated compared to VCRs. Excellent value!
