5 out of 5 stars Great Mixer   August 27, 2008
T. Johnson (Alabama)

This is my 2nd Kitchen Aid mixer. The first one is about 15 years old and is still in excellent condition(I put it away for when my daughter moves out). I bought the new one because I needed it bigger. I bake a lot and needed something a little more industrious. I absolutely love my new mixer. It is great for larger recipes. I give it a 5 star!!

Happy Baking!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful mixer!!   August 27, 2008

While this mixer is quite large and heavy, it does an amazing job!!! Before you purchase this one, make sure you have permanent counter space. It is too big to move around or store in another location. This mixer won't let you down!!

4 out of 5 stars Powerful, useful, flawed.   August 25, 2008

I have had my Pro 600 for 10 months now and have found it very useful - I make a lot of breads and pasta, and kneading all of it took a very long time and a lot of energy. This mixer gets the job done, even with large, dense loads of dough, cleans up easily, and looks industrial and intimidating on my countertop (in a good way). There are, however, a few fundamental flaws that plague the machine no matter what the task:

1. The motor is incredibly noisy. This seems to be alleviated by a heavier load on the motor, so interestingly, the lightest tasks are the worst for noise pollution. I had read reviews that cited this before purchasing, but was still surprised at just how loud it is.

2. The clip that holds the bowl in place does not hold strong enough to compete with the paddle/dough hook. Kneading stiff dough for pasta was impossible before I rigged the bowl clip with a chopstick - the bowl would simply pop off.

I have otherwise had a great experience with the machine and would recommend it highly. It has increased my bread and pasta output and makes itself even more useful when you invest in the attachments.

2 out of 5 stars Poor quality product demeans good name   August 20, 2008

I had a smaller model kitchen aid mixer that finally wore out after years of use and because I still had attachments that worked well, and a great respect for the product, I decided to get a larger model - a professional 600. This product does not deliver the quality of what Kichen Aid products used to represent. Large jobs overheat the motor causing it to turn off. I like the idea of it turning off instead of burning up but, in my case a large job is two batches of bread run back to back. This 'Pro' cannot handle long run times using larger recipes, (I refer to the recipes included with the mixer). In my opinion, this product is a waste of money because it does not perform as advertised. Motor overheating seems to be a common complaint from reviews I have seen on the internet and I can surely vouch for the accuracy of the motor overheating during NORMAL operation. I think Kitchen aid was bought out by some other corp. and the result is poor quality products that sell for a respected quality price. They also ignore e-mails.

2 out of 5 stars BEWARE Bigger isn't always better   August 19, 2008

My grandmother, mother, and sister all own kitchen aids. Once in college, I decided it was time to buy one too. I bought the 5qt 475 watt (bowl lift) from Costco. I have now had it for 4+ years and I have loved it! I have often thought about upgrading to the 6 quart mixer, however, I have found from multiple people's comments that it is not worth it.

My sister uses them in her classroom (teaching home-ec) and she has stated numerous times, unless you are making 4+ dozen cookies each time you bake it is too large. When whipping cream, you need large amounts or the mixer will leave un-whipped cream at the bottom of the bowl. I was trying to cream butter with my sister-in-laws 6 quart mixer and because the bowl is larger (and by larger, they made it wider, so it's more squat and fat) the butter flew out of the bowl and landed on the floor. It happens every time I do that. And yes, it is louder than the mixer I have.

So save 100$ and be happier with your purchase.
