Money not well spent November 30, 2008 Charles Evans (North Carolina) You can add me to the list of people who are disappointed with the Mr. Coffee FTX21 coffee maker. While we enjoy some of the features on the maker (namely the automatic shut-off and the ability to pour while brewing). Others have complained about the Mr. Coffee quality, but after over a year we have not had any problems in terms of overall quality. However there are many areas for imporvement. - It leaks - not only does it leak but it is nearly impossible to fill up the reservoir without accidently spilling water everywhere. - The unit never seems to dry. We make coffee about once a day and it seems like the unit is always damp. Maybe this is not a big deal, but it makes me worry about bacteria and fungus. - Taste - doesn't seem to be anything special. - It takes a solid 15 minutes to brew a 12 cup pot-of-coffee. To me this seems to be waaaay too long. - Programmability - while the unit can be programmed it is not easy to program. Final tally - This coffeemaker is a mid/low level price point. My suggestion is to either save $30 and buy a no thrills basic maker or to spend an additional $30 and buy a more of a high-end appliance. 2 stars
Never again! Two strikes you're out! November 29, 2008 Michael D. Gardner (Oxford, MI USA) Ok, as of this writting, this will be our second try at this Coffee Maker and the second time it has proven itself to be a piece of junk! We purchased our original one a couple of years ago and thought it was great! Lot's of extras and a nice look for our kitchen decor. After about 8 months the unit wouldn't turn off on it's own and we simply used it as a coffee maker hot plate and unplugged it when not in use (since the burner would not turn off). We cleaned it as often as the manual suggested and in the manner suggested, it still failed and stopped working altogether. Ok, we figured we just got a bad unit but liked the look and features and figured we would give it another try. We purchased a second unit. Sure enough, even with proper care, about nine months later we were facing the EXACT same problems with the burner not shutting off. Finally, this morning, it died. Sorry, done buying Mr. Coffee anything.
So Far, I'm Not Impressed! November 9, 2008 Phil Stout 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this product for less than a week, and so far, I'm not impressed. Especially when making the first pot of coffee, it: 1) Started smoking from the water reservoir! 2) Made the loudest noise I've heard from a coffee maker! 3) The coffee had a very strange taste! Needless to say the jury is out on this product as far as I'm concerned. Had a Black & Decker coffee maker for years, never a problem.
Great product August 29, 2008 P. R. Foltz (Doylestown, PA USA) We have had this coffee maker now for about 3 months, and are generally very satisfied. It is full-featured, with an intuitive interface with easy directions next to buttons and knobs - so you can figure it out without cracking open the manual (when all else fails....read the manual!). The hot-plate keeps the coffee nice and hot after the drip function completes. The only 2 complaints I have are that there is no battery backup to keep the clock going during a power outage or unplugging - and the biggest annoyance (for me) is the carafe has a hinged lid that does not come off. This forces you to wash the carafe by hand, since the hinged lid makes it an ungainly fit for the dishwasher. This is the only reason I did not rate this product a 5.
Quality Machine, Great Coffee August 24, 2008 Cynthia (CT) I've had this coffeemaker for 3 years. It makes the best coffee of any pot I've owned. The construction is sturdy and it's got lots of extras that really make it worth the already low price... Auto shut-off, brew strength selector, programmable, beeps when coffee's ready, warmer plate temperature selector, clock. The design is very stylish and looks great on the countertop. My only complaint is that the clock, while it is technically digital, uses 'hands' instead of a number display. Overall though, it's a wonderful machine.
