 Excellent blender for fruit smoothies March 16, 2010

I've owned this blender for 2 years and it's served me very well. I use it to blend frozen fruit into smoothies, peas to make soup, and long green leaves to make a "green smoothie." I would say it does an excellent job for the first two functions, and a better than average job in blending green leaves and stems (it's not really designed to blend these though). So overall, a very powerful blender and an excellent choice for fruit smoothies.
 Easily replaced breaks and those that cannot March 13, 2010

Breaking a rubber gasket is not cause to criticize a blender, but breaking the driver shaft is most definitely.
It depends what is put into the blender to make it break. My last one died after a piece of unchopped parsley was caught in the turning mechanism and burned out the motor. Since motors cannot be repaired or easily replaced that means a new machine. A big negative.
The rubberized gaskets are nothing. I bought 10 of them last time I ordered at the hardware store. They are inexpensive and need replacement now and then.
I want an Oster like the one I received after I was married 40 years ago. It would made out of metal and lasted 35 years.

i bought this blnder depending on the customer's reviews actually its a good blender but the jar base was cracked after 5 times of usage
its very poor quality ... i had to buy another jar base .. they could make a better quality base :(

A lot of reviewers problems have seemed to be with crushed ice, or frozen fruit. I purchased an ice blade to go along with this (only $10 more) and it crushed everything up in about 4 seconds. My honey was thrilled with it!! We have gone through 2 other blenders this month alone, and I will be shocked if this doesn't last. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is I would've like it better if the glass jar was just a little bigger..... but I wonder if I can just order a bigger one?? I'll have to look! GREAT purchase!
 Blender not durable for frozen fruit or ice February 7, 2010

Purchased this item after reviewing the positive reviews. For the past 7 months we have used this product daily to make fruit smoothies using frozen fruits. With the series being named 'Professional', one would figure it would be able to handle such use. However this is not the case...the coupling broke off. The product advertisement states that its an 'all metal drive'...however the inside of the coupling is mostly rubber. Sent Oster an e-mail explaining the problem a week ago, yet they have not responded. Will be asking for a refund, if it is still under warranty. Blender may be okay for other uses not involving ice or frozen items frequently...appearance is excellent --appears to be a commercial look.
