Great but needs more heat! October 21, 2008 SassySassy1 (Los Angeles, Ca USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the price and the features, I don't think you can beat this little guy. My only complaint is that the coffee is not as hot as I'd like it to be, even as soon as it's done brewing. It's not hot, more like warm to very warm. Other than that, it's a great little unit. Just the right size, and very user friendly.
Amazing little brewer for cheap! Able to "Potless-Brew!" August 14, 2008 Joypebble (Back East, USA) Just right for a quick "Single" cup of coffee. I brew directly into the cup so I don't need (or want) the mid-brewing auto-shutoff for pouring during brewing. On units that have temporary brew-stopping device will not brew directly into a mug or cup. Reason is the little spring-loaded shut-off valve is always on "off" when the pot is removed. So, this unit is just great for a pot-less brewing directly into your mug. Great for the one or two people who want decaf when you're brewing a pot of regular. Linens-n-Things has it for $19.95 less 20% if you get their coupons in local flyers. I paid $16.00, amazing. I don't like permanent filters because they retain the coffee oil after brewing and that oil film eventually turns rancid unless you wash the basket after each brewing with detergent to remove the oil. Does anyone know who makes a 4-cup round paper filter for use? I am using a #2 cone filter but it fits sloppily. Suggestions?
Coffeemaker April 26, 2008 Michelle Sam Makes a great cup of coffee. Easy to use. Only thing I miss on this model is the feature that lets you take a cup before it is finished brewing. Also, it is a little difficult to see the "On" light when it is lit. Otherwise, I am very pleased with this 5 cup coffeemaker.
has permanent filter basket, but no pause-n-serve or auto-off March 23, 2008 Dirk "Duke" Richter (Connecticut, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't think I'd miss the pause-n-serve, but I do. I like the permanent filter basket, it lets more coffee solids through for a more flavorful cup. But just when you think it's safe to pour, it dribbles. There are also two holes in the back just above the 5-cup waterline. If you fill it and move it back under the cabinet, you may splash some water through these holes. The unit does not shut off automatically either. I do like the way the basket lifts entirely out of the unit. Do yourself a favor, spend an extra 5 bucks and get a different model.
SUPER VALUE & GREAT COFFEE RESULTS January 4, 2008 Dr. Dee (Orlando, FL) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was a replacement coffee maker for a 4 cup MR. Coffee that stopped working. The best feature is it makes 5 cups, so if you are using a larger mug you can get 2 full servings with each pot. The timer is easy to operate and works perfectly. I never used a steel mesh reusable coffee filter before but it works surprisingly well, but it adds one more thing to wash. Even finely ground coffee does not pass through the reusable filter. Paper coffee filters can be used as well. It can be purchased at Linen-n-Things for $15 with their 20% off coupons. A steal-of-a-deal at that price. The only negative about Black & Decker products is replacement parts (glass pot, filter) are generally not available at retail stores and sometimes they have limited availability since models come and go quickly. But for the price of this unit a complete replacement is less than a couple cups of coffee at Starbucks.
