Upon opening the box, I was impressed and a bit skeptical at how light the base unit was. Feels like a wopping two maybe 3 pounds. The unit is accompanied by a lid that seems a bit puny. It seems to be made of a ver light poor quality plastic. I'm not entirely certain yet how long the lid will hold up. The glass pitcher is nice and heavy and appears well made. I've only used this two times so far, but I have wasted no time puting it to the test. The firs thing I made in this blender was a crushed ice drink. I put whole ice cubes into the blender with a few other ingredients. It was so much quieter than my last blender, and it did a fair job of blending the ice. I did end up with a couple pea sized chunks, but other that, it was great! The second thing I made in this was a smoothie using frozen fruit. Other than the seeds from the fruit, it was all smooth and delicious. No trouble with the assembly or dis-assembly of the pitcher. The simplicity of three speeds takes away the complication of having to choose among 14. I think I've found a pretty good blender.
