3 out of 5 stars Not bad, not great   November 4, 2008
David Moore (Atlanta, GA)
I have been wanting this toaster for a couple months. Finally the price dropped enough and I got it.

There are a few points you should consider before purchasing.

1. It toasts well and the oven function is great.
2. I have had this item for about two months now and it is working fine.
3. When trying to manually eject the toast, it is quite difficult but if you have your "darkness level" set correctly, it shouldn't be a problem.
4. The door is a bit hard to clean. It would be helpful if the door would actually come off to allow for better cleaning.

Over all I would say this a fine toaster. Let's face it, it is a toaster, not a computer.

3 out of 5 stars Convenient, not super great   August 28, 2008

This "toaster oven toaster" is not a bad purchase. It was somewhat well-priced and I do use it everyday. Although, what other reviewers say is true. The tops of whatever you put in the oven will burn if put at 350 degrees or higher. A pizza slice, bagels, etc. have to be closed monitored. And while one section will burn, the other side of your pizza or bagel will barely get a browning.

The toaster function I don't even use, the toaster will heat so slowly that anything coming out of the freezer or fridge will bend b/c it will melt before toasting. And if it's bread you're toasting, it will have the toast marks on the center, but not the top or bottom of the toast.
It's very difficult to remove something from the toaster early, I've found I have to switch it from toaster to oven and back to toaster to get it let go of the food.

The last negative is: it's not easy to clean. I had to throw away the crumb pan it has in the oven about 6 months ago because any little thing would get stuck to it. It has a lot of nooks and crevices for crumbs to fall into, and hard to get them out.

If you are looking for a spacesaver, this is not a bad choice. It works decent (the oven) and looks great (if you can keep it clean). If you want a real toaster, look elsewhere.

1 out of 5 stars Should be called "Crapstation"   May 4, 2008

Got this via our wedding registry. Saw it; zapped it because it looked pretty cool. Hmm... double duty. Nice idea. Worst toaster in the entire world.

Where do I begin? The front-loading toaster oven part has only @ 1 1/2inches of clearance... you can put in a bagel, but that's about it. Anything else is scraping the top off. Plus, whatever fits in the front door is likely to get scorched because the heating elements are only about an inch away from your food(!!)

Continuing on with the front "toaster oven" part. There is no such thing as "low heat" on this thing. If you put the knob on the lowest temp and have, let's say a piece of pizza in there; it will absolutely become a scorched mess. It's like a blast furnace; no matter what temp you've assigned, it just goes all the way up to bright orange, then coasts for a while on all the extreme heat it's generated.

The only good thing about this thing is that it matches the rest of our wedding stuff that we registered for. Beyond that, it's a frustrating piece of crap.

4 out of 5 stars Good affordable little toaster...and cute   April 11, 2008

I'm usually the type of person who will take function over form any day, but I gave in and bought this little toaster oven because I thought it was inexpensive (costs less than most adequate toasters), and so darned cute! (I tried to convince myself that it was a space saver because you can use it as a toaster or an oven, but I think I could have gotten one with a better oven feature than this one. The truth is, I have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer which is Empire Red, and I am constantly on a quest to find other appliances and kitchen accessories that match it, other than the more expensive Kitchen Aid brand, because I love it so much, and we're on a limited income. I love to cook and bake, so I rarely use it for baking, and I have never tried broiling or roasting in it. My daughter uses it more for reheating purposes when she doesn't want "mushy" microwave frozen foods (ie, pizza, burritos, etc.)

Pros:
Mostly made of metal and has a glass door, very sturdy, yet lightweight. I move it often when I need counter space, so it gets banged around quite a bit. I've had this oven over a year and it still looks like new. None of the finish or color has worn, melted or faded yet.

I bake our bread in a machine, and the taller slices are easily accommodated by the toaster slot; it also handles bagels very well. The glass door allows you to monitor the toast, which is a plus. I have found that our toast consistently comes out nicely browned when set between 2 and 3. I also use the toaster slot to toast hamburger and hot dog buns, with few problems of the rolls getting 'hung up' in the slot. When things occasionally hang up in there, a good set of kitchen tongs works well.

Cons:
As mentioned by other reviewers, it is very difficult to eject toast during the cycle...sometimes if the selector knob is turned to 1, it will eject, but most times, you need to unplug it, or the toast will hit the ceiling when you eject it via the side lever.

Baking/broiling temperature is inaccurate due to inadequate seal around the door (actually there is no seal). Trial runs are needed to determine cooking times. Since I rarely or never use the oven feature, not such a huge problem for me. If someone were to need to use it often for those purposes, it might not be a good buy for them.

Botom Line: I sacrificed a little function for form with this purchase, but I don't regret it. It was a good deal for the price.
