Reliability issues and abysmal service March 30, 2008 John S. Dean (Sturtevant, WI United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Loved the microwave, loved the look of the buttons across the bottom. Worked beautifully for the first 5 1/2 months, then dead. One Sunday I was using it as nothing more than a timer, Monday morning it was dead. Completely. No lights, no power, no response at all. It has been 4 weeks now, still inop. It is a known problem, so when I called and described the problem, I assumed they would come on site with parts in hand. Waited 10 days for a technician, showed up and looked at it, verified it doesn't work, and said "Yeah, you'll need that part. We'll get it on order." 10 days later I tried calling this service center back, nobody ever answers anymore, left messages and nobody bothers to return the call. Called LG customer service at their headquarters, three times I've called, three times I've been promised some response, three times they've ignored me. Tried a second service center, took them over a week just to order the parts. Don't know how long it will be to get them here to repair it then. Avoid LG like the plague. I have about $2200 in their washer and dryer as well, and I hope that they don't have issues because this is the worst customer support I've ever encountered. They cannot stand by their products if their lives depended on it. EDIT: Added 11/13/08 After doing some digging into LG's MX records and testing some email tests from a command line, I finally found the CEO's email address. Emailed them about the unit (5 weeks and still not fixed, still no parts on order) and the next day I had a phone call from LG headquarters, the day after I had a new microwave delivered, the best unit, not this one that was just slightly less than best on this line. So while it took almost a month and a half, I finally got a new one. But that was just because I sent an email straight to the CEO, not because of anything with their support system or customer service.
they don't honor warranty November 28, 2007 M. P. Long (Charlotte NC) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
After 8 months, the inside paint on the microwave started coming off. After several calls to LG tech support (and having a technician come out to my house), they refused to fix it since it was "cosmetic". There is no exclusion on their warranty sheet for cosmetic issues, and it was obviously a failure in materials and workmanship. They don't stand behind their products.
