Really didn't want non-stick coating in my eggs.... August 17, 2008 K. Paladino (Northeast PA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok...it's true I use this type of skillet heavily - 3 times a week average but shouldn't the non-stick coating last longer than 2 months? I call this type skillet "disposable" because of the length of time they last in my kitchen. I used to get one every Christmas but I'm just tired of trying to get rid of them at garbage time. This is my second Rival. Why did I buy another? Got me. The non-stick coating started bubbling up within a couple uses and then peeling off into my food. And NO...I have never ever used metal cooking utensils in this skillet. If you're like me with a large family, invest in something a little more durable. A couple extra dollars now can save a whole lot of headache later.
Can't maintain its temperature January 15, 2008 Salt Cellar (St. Louis, MO) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Used the Rival 16" skillet to make french onion soup. It couldn't maintain its temperature. Liquid would be fiercly boiling one minute, completely still (not even simmering) the next. The thermostat was set at 250 deg and wasn't touched. Apparently the thermostat won't let the skillet stay within a narrow temp range and allows WIDE temperature swings above & below the set temp. I'm returning it tomorrow.
Very disappointed August 25, 2007 JDM 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After only 3 uses the non stick coating is coming off is large pieces. One area about 2" square and another 2" x 5".
It's OK, but. . . July 14, 2007 Russel Polk (Austin, TX. USA) the teflon coating is starting to come off. I could see little holes in it after just 2-3 months, but now that it is 6 months old, it is showing more and more silver where there should be just black.Rival Glass Lid Electric Skillet 16x11
